Pinnacle Rib Route (Tryfan)

An excellent mountaineering day on Tryfan with Tom and Mike. The weather was fine and reasonably warm, but there were still large patches of snow around.

After parking at the roadside, we walked past Little Tryfan and on towards Heather Terrace, which we reached a bit before noon. We found the start of Pinnacle Rib Route with little difficulty (Tom and Mike had climbed the first couple of pitches before, but had to back off). We climbed as a 3 on half ropes, rotating leading. It was nice to have some company whilst belaying! We grabbed lunch at convenient stances on the way up, and the climb went pretty smoothly.

At the summit we made the obligatory jump from Adam to Eve, before we began our scramble descent down the North Ridge. The thin layer of snow didn’t cause any major problems, and we made it down just as the sun was setting.

I’ll definitely come back to try the scramble in ascent (and in drier conditions!) and remember to get the obligatory photo with the Cannon!

Mike brought his drone out for the day and captured some excellent footage, with particularly impressive stabilisation given the stiff breeze.
